Tab Top Curtains Provide Simple Elegance

There are two main types of window treatments that you will see in the home, draperies and curtains. There is actually a difference between the two in that draperies are pleated panels that hang from hooks attached to a traverse rod. Draperies are opened and closed by pulling on a cord that moves the panels. Curtains are unlined and they are opened and closed by hand rather than by pulling on the cord. They are also hung on rods in creative ways that distinguish the look and feeling of style in the room.
One of the popular creative ways in which some curtains are hung is with tailored tab tops. Tab top curtains are distinguished by the fabric loops at the head by which they are hung from the curtain rod. They look clean and efficient due to the fact that there is less fabric on display at the top. They also allow you to show off the curtain rod which may be a huge decorative bonus.
Tab top curtains may be made of a light breezy fabric such as lace or voile but are equally as effective made of a heavy fabric such as velvet. They are easy to hang and look effective when hung alone but also look stunning when given a coordinating valance treatment.
Making tab top curtains are easier than other curtains because you don’t need to use as much fabric in the construction and then, when coming to the tabs they require a lot less work than creating a looped hem for the curtain rod. The tabs can be closed in a number of ways such as with Velcro, buttons or they can be sewn closed.

There are a number of different styles of tab top curtains to choose from, each of them give you something a little bit different that increases their functionality while still looking great. Tab top panel curtains are similar to regular tab top curtains except they are cut in large panels. Insulated or thermal tab top curtains are made from heavier fabric and are normally doubled over to create a barrier that will help lower heating and cooling bills. Lined tab top curtains simply have an extra lining backing the facing fabric. Both of the latter options give you a heavier curtain that will filter out even more of the light providing more privacy suitable for bedrooms or lounge rooms.
