Add A Wall Mount Faucet To the Kitchen

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

During a kitchen renovation there are many seemingly small decisions that have to be made that will affect the overall look and appeal of the room. The new faucets are one of these little choices with something as innocuous as whether the faucet will be bench mounted or wall mounted.

As the name suggests, a wall mounted kitchen faucet has the handles mounted on the wall above the sink rather than on the bench top. A wall mount faucet requires specialist installation skills with the water source having to be extended above the sink inside the wall. It’s the kind of thing that must be done early on in the renovation process before the kitchen walls have been added in, so make sure your plans are clear and set in stone to avoid having to go back and replacing the wall soon after it has been built.

The range of wall mount kitchen faucets is quite diverse with a variety available that will complement different styles of kitchens.

The most common type of faucet is a dual handle wall kitchen faucet with a handle for the hot water and another handle for the cold water installed either side of the spout. This is the type of set up that most people visualize when they think about a traditional kitchen faucet.

The alternative is a single wall mount kitchen faucet that operates using a single lever that controls the water flow as well as the temperature of the water. It works by moving in an upward and downward motion to control water flow and side to side to adjust the water temperature.

An additional accessory that you may also want to have mounted on the wall is a pull out faucet to use when washing pots and reaching other areas that require a water source. This sort of faucet will have the added feature of having a wide range of movement as well as being able to be extended far beyond that of a normal faucet.

Apart from the fact that you may prefer the look of a wall mounted kitchen faucet, there is a further benefit to installing one and that is that it frees up some of the counter space. In a kitchen where counter space is at a premium, clearing the sink area of faucet hardware will help create the appearance of more room and it will also allow the space to be used when the kitchen gets busy.

Choosing a wall mount kitchen faucet that suits your budget without having to compromise on the quality can go a long way with its dependable functionality.

Wall mount faucets are available from all major faucet manufacturers with a range large enough to meet every style. From chrome to stainless steel, copper and brushed bronze there is a look and a style that will suit every taste.

From the shower heads to the tiles and on to the vanity, you have an enormous selection of accessories and features that are going to combine to give you a bathroom that you can be proud of.

This amazing choice does not stop at the faucets and the bathroom sink and one of the most striking kinds of bathroom faucets are waterfall faucets. These amazing pieces of sink hardware give you the impression of a flowing stream as it pours over a precipice in a waterfall to the sink. It’s a great idea for a bathroom faucet system and one that can even be seen as a calming feature of the bathroom.

Bronze Waterfall Faucet

There are a number of lovely looking types available but one that has really been an eye catcher is an oil rubbed bronze waterfall faucet that has been designed to sit above a vessel sink. The dark and distinctive color of the faucet is the first noticeable feature that gives you a brooding, good looking faucet that will look just perfect in a period inspired setting. A matching bronze bowl sink or a stone sink would complete the picture.

Pictured is the modern oil rubbed bronze waterfall faucet which allows the water to simply flow over the lip of the bronze outlet. Another option is to buy a bronze waterfall faucet that comes with a glass tray to give you an even more visually appealing waterfall effect. Either of these options are stunning looking faucets.

Because the oil rubbed bronze effect is a worked finish the color may be a little lighter or darker than that which is displayed in the picture and if you think this will cause a problem when matching it to a sink, it would be a good idea to select the exact one you want personally.

There are simply so many choices of faucets for a bathroom available that it pays to get an idea of the various types of options that are out there before you walk into a store and find yourself dazzled with choice. Mixers, hand washers, wall mounted fixtures and more could all be part of the new look you’re after, or you may be looking for something that will give you some older world appeal.

When installing a new bathtub you will also have to decide on a new set of faucets that will complement the new tub. One of the choices that you might go for is a touch of elegance in a Roman tub faucet. These faucets are designed to go with a Roman style bathtub, but they will look good in a range of bathroom settings.

Roman tub faucets are a traditional look for a modern setting, although manufacturers are creating some very fresh and new looks with their Roman tub faucet lines. A Roman tub faucet is different to what we might consider a regular bathroom faucet in that it is mounted on the horizontal surface. Most bathtub faucets are vertically mounted on the wall above the tub.

You can expect your faucets to remain looking good and lasting well beyond the 20 year mark. Naturally, because the mounting is a specialized one you’re going to be limiting your choices in bathtubs, requiring one that can take the mounting, but that should only require an awareness that you will be looking for a Roman tub.

In general when you buy a Roman tub faucet they come with two handles for the hot and cold water controls. There is quite an array of choices available that can give a traditional or more modern charm, depending on your preference. A nice feature with many styles of Roman tub faucets is the faucet handles which are lever handles to give that old style charm and appeal. For a more regular style handle you can opt for the traditional four prong handles.

The hardware in your bathroom can sometimes be thrown in as an afterthought but its these small flourishes that really sets the bathroom apart from others and can make or break the look in a design perspective.

The major manufacturers all produce an impressive line of Roman tub faucets with names such as Pfister, Grohe, Delta, Kohler and Danze all reputable brands to look out for.

Foot Pedal Faucet Control

Sunday, October 11th, 2009

Here is a neat idea for anyone installing a new kitchen sink and faucet system who has always had their hands full when they’ve gone to turn on the faucet. It’s a foot pedal faucet control that gives you a hands free faucet system.

The foot pedal is mounted in the toe space of the kitchen sink cabinet and when you need to operate the faucet you simply depress the pedal to begin the flow of water. The control cable and housing of the system are all concealed inside the kitchen cabinet so it looks very innocuous with only the levers exposed at the floor level.

One of the arguments for using a foot controlled faucet system is as a way of preventing the spread of germs. When you wash your hands the first thing you do is touch the faucet handle to turn on the water. When finishing washing your hands you have to touch the same faucet handles to turn the water off again, contaminating your hands that have just been cleaned. By avoiding the contact with the faucet your hands remain germ-free and ready to begin food preparation.

The system comes with one lever for hot water and another for cold water. To get warm water you simply depress both levers at the same time. The water stays on for as long as you push on the pedal, There is also a latch pedal that allows you to keep the water running until the hot water pedal is tapped.

As a means of preventing the spread of hand-borne germs a foot pedal faucet control is an ideal solution. It is certainly an idea that is worthy of consideration for anyone installing a new kitchen or upgrading the faucet in an old kitchen.

Thoughts On Faucets

Sunday, October 11th, 2009

One of the areas that you’re going to be faced with when you renovate your kitchen is a new set of faucets. Faucets come in a great variety of shapes and sizes that help to add to the decorative appeal of the kitchen. Not only that but they serve multiple functions as well. There are some factors to consider when you go out to shop for faucets and fittings.

Work out what kind of handles you find the most comfortable to use. It may be a lever handle or a mixer that allows you to set the temperature and to increase or decrease the water pressure. Of course, you may simply prefer the traditional hot and cold water knobs.

Decide on whether you want a one-piece faucet or one that you can pull out. The pullout option is handy when you have to rinse large pots and gives you the flexibility when it comes to washing dishes and pans of unusual size and shape.

Do you need to install different faucets for a number of different sinks in the kitchen? An island or bar sink will probably require different sized faucets than the main kitchen sink. High arched faucets work well on an island sink while a swivel faucet is handy for the main sink, especially if it’s a dual bowl sink.

Will you be installing a deck mounted or a wall mounted faucet? The kind of sink you get will be determined by this requirement because they may come with pre-drilled holes for the faucet and fittings to be added.

Consider the kinds of accessories you’re going to be adding. Lotion dispensers, filtered water units and pot filler faucets will all require thought on where they are going to be positioned.

Style is important and the style of faucet you choose is going to be a big decision. Are you a steel person or would you prefer to see a white enamel surface? The faucet that you use on each of these types of sinks may differ. Different manufacturers will produce faucets and sinks that will work well together or clash terribly.

It’s not a simple task to decide on the faucets you’re installing in your new kitchen. They’re pieces of hardware that will get a lot of use and you’re going to require a set that will be comfortable and functional and meet all of your requirements.
