Getting the Right Dining Table

Wednesday, March 17th, 2010

There are a few pieces of furniture for the home that have the same impact that the dining room table does. Regardless of the style of table, the material on the table or the size of the table it demands attention. For this reason choosing the right table your home is a very important decision that need to be made, of course though the most critical decision is what size you should purchase because that is the deciding factor on how many people you can sit around it and whether it will even fit into your room!

What is the best type of table for my room?

That's a difficult question to answer without seeing your room but there are some tables that look good in any type of room if you stick to plain and simple you cannot really go too far wrong. Natural wooden tables constructed from a neutral coloured wood such as a medium oak will fit well into most home interiors and so do not really have a type of room that they are best suited to.

A glass table is also something that will fit into many homes. The mere fact that it is transparent means that it has very little visual impact on your home and so it will fit comfortably into small rooms, cluttered rooms and even large rooms very nicely. Glass is an ideal material for tables as it is very resistant to scratching, stains and heat. Glass is also very easy to keep clean.

If you have a small dining room and you occasionally require a larger dining table you may well decide that an extending dining table is the right choice. An extending dining table of any shape and style is available and will serve the purpose of comfortably seating a small gathering, allowing you plenty of room in your undersized dining room and then being extended out when guests arrive. It's a great option.

One of the most gorgeous pieces of furniture that you can possibly add to a room, particularly if you are fond of the farmhouse or rustic styles, is an old wooden trestle dining table. These tables are fabulous for seating large numbers of people, they are usually as solid as they come and they look great no matter what the surrounding décor looks like.

Generally a trestle dining table can be characterized by the way I which the legs are located with a solid block at one end of the table and another block at the other. They are capable of seating a greater number of people than similar size tables because the legs aren’t getting in the way of the fit of diners.

When you go out with the specific goal to buy a trestle dining table you are going to find that you’re faced with a range of options and all of them are going to look fantastic which will make the decision that much more difficult. The most common types of tables that you may find will be pine trestle tables and oak trestle tables. Both look impressive when they have been properly finished and stained. In either case they will give you a dining table that is solidly built and will last for many years.

Moving on to more exotic types of wood there are quite a lot of example of cherry trestle dining tables. Cherry is a hard wood and it would provide a table that was built to last while maintaining the most beautiful of finishes out of all the types of wood you will come across. If you’d like something a little lighter you may go for a maple trestle dining table. Again, maple is a very reliable type of wood and well suited to the job of a dining table. Also available are tables made of mahogany, hickory or teak.

But trestle tables aren’t only made out of wood. It’s a style of table and the trestle style has been adapted for use with materials such as glass. A glass trestle table will look similar to a wooden trestle table only in the hardware under the table top, which would operate in the same way that the wood ones do.

Make sure you have taken careful measurements of the room where you trestle dining table is going to be situated. They are often a large type of table and you don’t want the room to be overpowered by the sheer size and presence of your new trestle table.
