So what kinds of horse bookends might you wish to choose from? The most common ones that I have seen feature a pair of horse heads, one at each end of the row of books facing away from each other. The shape of the horse heads with the neck of the horse supporting the books provides a natural prop for the books and when they are made from onyx or marble or even wood they provide a sturdy barrier to the books.
The use of the full body of the horse is another option and these bookends seem to provide you with a choice of one of two options. You might either find a pair of grazing horses, sometimes with saddles and sometimes not, or you can choose a pair of rearing horses.
