Corner Kitchen Sinks

The preferred position of the kitchen sink is the place that makes it most convenient to work. It should be central to the other important parts of the kitchen, the refrigerator and the stove. In an L-shaped kitchen or a U-shaped kitchen this central spot may be on a corner.

Another possibility may be that space in the kitchen is a major problem and so the only realistic option may be to put the sink in the corner. This is not really a problem if you can work out the best way to access the sink itself. A range of corner kitchen sinks are manufactured to cater for circumstances such as this, many of them styled to utilize the area to the greatest possible degree.

In this situation a round corner kitchen sink might be the most suitable option with the faucets installed to the side for easier access. A small round kitchen sink can be a very striking feature in the room and it is just as functional as a rectangular bowl. Another popular type of sink for placement in the corner is an undermount corner sink that will maximize the counter space while still providing ample washing space.

By locating the sink in the corner section of the countertop you will maximize the usable counter space by making use of a section that may otherwise have been dead space.

Corner Kitchen SinkThere are some innovative designs for the corner kitchen sink with single and double bowl designs making good use of the shape of the corner. A shallow corner may make it possible to use a small corner sink that will place the bowl at the apex of the corner (pictured left). An alternative style is to make use of the hard corner with a double bowl, locating one bowl on either side of the corner with the drainer at the apex (pictured below right). Another tremendous idea forĀ utilizing the corner of the counterĀ is installing an apron kitchen sink with the front edge of the sink forming a bridge between the two arms of the countertop.

Double Corner Kitchen SinkCorner kitchen sinks are available made from a range of materials with the most popular stainless steel, granite, ceramic or nickel. They are a little trickier to install than centrally located kitchen sinks because it is necessary to have them positioned so that they are located an equal distance from the front and the back of the work surface and that it is evenly positioned around the corner.

Not only can a corner sink provide a solution to an otherwise wasted part of the kitchen counter, it may become a stunning focal point in the kitchen. As long as it works functionally, giving good access to the traffic flow in the kitchen then it will serve as a great asset to the room.
