Your Jewelry Armoire Holds Memories

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

There was a time when women didn’t own quite the collection of jewelry that they do today.  Most women today have quite a few pieces that they must manage to organize.  In times when Kings and Queens ruled supreme, the crown jewels would not be the subject of such needs.  They were to be found in special rooms.  Well, if you have the jewelry a Queen would be jealous of and no place to put it, consider the jewelry armoire as your perfect solution.

Armoires have the benefit of being both a convenient place to store your jewelry and can make nice pieces of accent furniture in your space.  Some people would choose to have the jewelry box proudly displayed in their bedroom.  Others would rather it be a bit more out of sight and mind in the closet.  Whatever the case, these are more than just your average jewelry box.

Jewelry armoires are great pieces of furniture that can organize all of your jewelry in one easy to access unit.  No more rummaging through a shoebox or glass bowl on the counter.  Then, you have to untangle each necklace, earring and bracelet.  You know the drill.  Now, you can simply hang your items on individual hooks and store smaller pieces in drawers that have dividers.  There are a variety of these armoires available.

It is possible to get a locking jewelry armoire just to give yourself a little more privacy inside the home. While it won't exactly protect your valuables from being stolen it might deter the curious fingers from little ones in the house. It is also possible to install a wall mounted jewelry armoire for a little more permanance and there are some wonderful designs available that will allow it to blend in nicely with the rest of the room's decor.

The wooden jewelry armoire makes for the most elegant looking, in our opinion.  They come in various hues, from light oak to darker stains, like cherry and mahogany.  Then, there are other features, like glass inserts for the doors and sides.  Carving and other detailing can also be a feature of the armoire.  In this way, they are like the old wardrobe closets or clocks on fireplace mantels.  There was just something charming and warming about the detailed craftsmanship that went into those old wooden pieces of furniture.  Well, now you can have that same charm and organize your jewelry all at once.

The French Armoire: A Brief Look at Its History

Monday, February 1st, 2010

Did you know that the armoire was originally a storage unit not for your socks and underwear or your sweaters and shirts, but rather a place to stash guns and iron weapons? Strangely, armoire cabinets were primarily used a placeholder or storage unit for the weapons that a family owned!

Fast forward to today and you'd be hard pressed to find anyone using their Honey Can Do Wardrobe Closets to store the family shotgun or a collection of swords! But at that time, the armoire meant something else than it does in our modern day.

In fact, if a time traveller from the past came up to you today and saw a big wardrobe closet in your room, he might think it's odd that you consider this an armoire but don't call your wooden cabinets an armoire. This is because the term "armoire" originally meant nothing specific to the so-called wardrobe closets of the day. Instead, armoire referred to any type of wood based storage unit that had cabinets or shelving inside it. You can see from this definition today why there are so many types of armoire furniture products that still fall under the umbrella of armoire, but have nothing to do with storing clothes. (For instance, wooden jewelry armoires come to mind as a ready example most are familiar with.)

Now at some point, these armoire storage cabinets that housed weapons started to accommodate other items not related to warfare. Most likely the armoire stored not clothes but dinner ware and other belongings a family, such as family heirlooms and relics. Then, on down the line, they started to be used to store sheets, blankets, and clothing. Finally, probably due to a marketing campaign in the middle of last century, armoires and wardrobe closets became synonymous in the minds of most shoppers who were unaware of the rich history of the armoire. But it wasn't always this way!

The Usage Of Closet Organizers

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

If you have noticed that you are running out of closet space, it may be time to consider investing in a few closet organizers. If it has become hard for you to find things in your closet or you are running out of places to hang your clothing up at, closet organizer systems are an option that may be able to help. Consider some of the various types available.

Closet organizers come in different shapes and sizes, with various purposes. Some closets organizers focus mainly on clothes, while others allow you to store other things, such as shoes, belts, ties and accessories. The organizers can be hung from the clothing rack of your closet. Other types may utilize floor space also. A hanging closet organizer is great for those with very small closets and even smaller budgets. It is a great way to make great use out of very little room. This type of organizer will hang from the existing closet rod and will house several compartments to separate your clothing.

Not only do these organizers allow you to reclaim your closet space, they also allow you to find everything much easier than before. You will never wonder where a certain pair of shoes or other item may have disappeared to in your closet ever again. With proper usage of the correct organizers, everything will be easy to access and more quickly found than ever before.

Depending on the size of your closet organizer and what type of material it is made out of, the price range can vary. Closet systems that are made out of inexpensive materials such as poster board will cost much less than than organizers that are made out of plastic, fabric, or other materials. Price can also vary depending on the size. Expect smaller organizers to be cheaper than larger organizers.

To locate one for your home you can visit your local retailers or hire a professional to come in and custom build you one if you have the budget to do so. This is the only way to get closet organization under control.
