It wasn’t all that long ago faucets served a single purpose in the kitchen and that was to get water from the pipes into glasses, pots or to use for dishwashing. These days, faucets play a much bigger role in the look of the kitchen.
The styles, sizes, shapes and finishes used on kitchen faucets can change the entire tone of the room. One of the types that have made a comeback in many households is the copper kitchen faucet. Copper has long been the type of metal carrying water from the mains to the faucet, but it has largely been unseen in the house for many years now. This is beginning to change.
The color and style of copper kitchen faucets take you back to early days when copper fixtures were commonly seen in houses. Antique copper faucets add a touch of elegance to the kitchen and set the tone for a grand antique style. No matter what the actual style the faucet is made, copper gives it a warm charm that harks back to a simpler time.

One of the interesting things about copper is that the qualities of the patina changes over time. As the metal ages it can change color from a bright and shiny finish to a darker, duller shade. This is often a process that many people embrace although others may be caught by surprise that their faucet has started to change appearance.
You can prevent or slow down the oxidation process to take place by treating your copper faucet with a wax finish. You will, however, have to regularly reapply the coating. Failing to do so will allow the inevitable change to take place. Alternatively you may want to look for a copper faucet that has been treated with a lacquer finish.
If you want to be more in control of how your copper faucet is going to look in the coming years you can buy them pre-weathered. These are aged pieces of copper that have been manufactured especially to take advantage of the dull look.
Although copper kitchen faucets give the impression of an old world style, the faucets that are made with the metal today take advantage of modern trends. Mixer faucets and other single handle set ups are available and still manage to give the appearance of an antique faucet.
The most popular style of antique copper kitchen faucets is the old compression faucet design with a spigot flanked by two handles, one for the hot water and the other for cold. This type of faucet is preferred because it looks more rustic and true to the country kitchen style.
