About concrete anchor bolts

Friday, June 4th, 2010

A concrete anchor bolt is used in construction to hold concrete together with other objects. There are many types, lengths, and sizes of concrete bolts that can be used for different specific purposes. All of them, though, are threaded bolts that are attached using a washer and lug nut to the other end. You can find anchor bolts in any kind of construction. They are extensively used in the building of houses, and are commonly used in building dams and bridges, but you can probably find them in any concrete structure.

The most common type of anchor bolt is the cast-in-place bolt. This kind of bolt is put in place while the concrete is still wet and is set in place when the concrete dries. This is also one of the strongest types of bolts in construction. This kind of bolt is used to attach the walls of the house to its foundation to help protect the structure from collapsing in an earthquake. The bolt is very long and strong with one end of bolt set in the concrete and the other end sticking out for attachment.

Another type of anchor bolts that is used a lot is the wedge anchor. This is a bolt with a hexagonal head, a bare body and ridged ending for holding a nut to keep it in place. There are three styles of these kind of bolts. One is the fully threaded bolt which in actuality is only mostly threaded with a portion that is still thread bare. This bolt is useful when construction workers need to level out a piece of concrete or even it to the others. However the disadvantage is that a lot of the strength is lost. Second is the partially threaded bolt which is only threaded at the end, and the last is the full bodied wedge anchor.
