Easy To Use Eyelet Window Curtains

Not only is the fabric used for our curtains important these days but the way in which they are hung has become a deciding factor for what kinds of curtains are bought. Just the hanging themselves will change the shape of the pleats and ultimately the way in which the curtains themselves. It may come down to a choice between tab topped curtains and eyelet curtains, although we seem to be seeing quite a lot of eyelet curtains being installed these days.

For ease of use the eyelet curtains simply slide straight onto the curtain rod without snagging or having to be carefully threaded. The eyelets make the job of hanging a quick and simple task. It doesn’t take very much to swap your lightweight sheer eyelet curtains if you decide that you’d like to make a change to the room either.

The eyelet rings are quite heavy duty so they can withstand a reasonable weight, meaning that you may use heavy or lightweight materials in the fabrication of your curtains. The beauty of using eyelet curtains, though, is that regardless of the weight of the fabric the curtains slide smoothly on and off the curtain rod every time.

Many people like the idea of making their own eyelet curtains and, in fact, it is quite a simple process if you are even a reasonable hand with the sewing machine. But there is such a strong range of good quality eyelet curtains available for sale at very reasonable prices it is quite possible to walk into a curtain store or website and pick out the style, color and size that you want.

There also seems to be plenty of resources available that can step you through the process of how to make your own eyelet curtains. One of the important factors would be the placement of the eyelets and that they are aligned properly. You should also remember that the curtains are going to rise above the curtain rod because of the positioning of the eyelets towards the top. This means the measuring up is a process that requires extra care.

A Contour Pillow for Comfort and Support

If a person chooses to incorporate a contour pillow into their sleep routine, they will find that the reward is improved rest and more enjoyable and energy filled days, as well. Contour pillows are designed ergonomically and they not only improve sleep, they give excellent support to the back and neck and can even help a person to develop better body posture.

Using a contour memory foam pillow means that a person has chosen ultimate comfort that will allow them to sleep deeply, comfortably, and with less waking, and without undue strain on their neck or spine that may lead to pain. They will find that they awaken refreshed and ready to face the day. Polyurethane that was treated with chemicals to increase the density and the viscosity of the polyurethane foam, memory foam was developed in the mid 1960s by a NASA research center. It was originally intended for improving the safety of aircraft cushions in an impact. A memory foam contour pillow cradles a person's head and neck at the angle that is ideal for the alignment of their spine, and offers further comfort by molding itself around the base of the head and neck to support that person's body perfectly. A pillow that is hypoallergenic as well as anti-microbial, the memory foam contour pillow is suitable for those who suffer from allergies as well.

A contour memory pillow is durable as well as comfortable. The unique material is made not to break down so it stands up well to normal wear. These pillows will not require “fluffing” to make them comfortable again, nor will the user need to get up throughout the night to punch and mold their pillow into shape in order to get the proper support that they need for a comfortable night's sleep.

Memory foam has an open cell structure so it is going to react to body heat as well as to weight and soften to mold itself around the head and neck. This allows a memory foam pillow to relieve pressure points and offer comfort that is far superior to that of a normal foam or feather pillow. The density and layer thickness of memory foam gives different memory foam contour pillows a great difference in their feel. High-density pillows return to the original shape more quickly and feel firmer. Lower density pillows feel softer and more like traditional foam pillows.

Contour pillows of good quality provide both softness and support no matter what sleeping position a person prefers. For back sleepers or side sleepers, a contour pillow is going to provide equal comfort and support. Since people have different builds and body styles, a contour pillow is an ideal choice to add to a bedding set as it features many positions which means that it can accommodate people who have either short or long necks. Those people who have back and neck pain often report that it is diminished after they have switched to a contour memory foam pillow.

A contour pillow is an investment in comfort and good health. Costing more than a regular foam pillow, they are still a great value, as a contour pillow pays for itself in no time in comfort and their durability means that pillows will be replaced less often, not to mention the savings in pain relievers. A contour pillow assists in gaining the best sleep possible along with the comfort factor, and proper neck and head support as well as alignment that decreases back and neck pain.

The Smart Choice in Bathroom Sets

With the number of bathroom sets for sale these days you can be forgiven for not knowing how to start when it comes to choosing one. You will find these sets everywhere : in department stores, in interior design outlets and in bathroom stores as well as online. If you would like some help with your selection, here are some tips to help you find the best one to fit your bathroom and your lifestyle.

1. Choose the Right Color or Finish

The modern style seems to be trending towards the preference for a white bathroom so we are free to choose whichever color or finish we like. However if you have white bathroom fittings but colored floor and/or wall tiles then you need to makes sure that your bathroom set selection goes with whatever you already have in the room. The same goes for any items such as curtains and towels you want to keep and will continue to use. There is no point looking at bathroom sets which don't go with whatever else you have and don't want to get rid of.

2. Find Out What Is In the Set

Bathroom sets are made up of various items and they are not all the same in terms of what is included so check the make up of the set you have in mind and that it includes what you need (and not too much of what you don't).

3. Make Sure the Price is Right

As sets come in all price ranges make sure that the ones you are considering fit your budget and you feel that each set you are considering is value for money.

4. Make Sure the Quality is Good

Some cheaper bathroom sets will fall to pieces after a short time so check the quality of the set you are planning on buying. Look at whether there are any rough edges, whether all fastenings are secure and whether the fabric or other materials (as appropriate) are of good quality before you make your mind up.

The Undermount Bar Sink

An undermount bar sink is one of the most common styles of bar sinks used in both home and retail applications. These sinks are available in cast iron with a porcelain finish as well as copper and stainless steel. The type of sink to be used is most often determined by a code requirement or a design specification.

In any public access condition such as a night club the local health and safety codes will dictate the type of sink that is to be used. In a home or other private setting personal preference or a design specification may determine the type of sink used.

The term under mount refers the type of installation as it relates to the counter or bar top. Whereas a top-set sink is installed from above the counter top and rests in place, the under mount sink is installed from below and attached by means of clips or brackets. These brackets may be factory-installed bolts or spot-welded clips that are fastened to a wide flange that borders the sink basin. The installation consists of attaching the sink to the underside of the counter top with the accessory mounting parts such as nuts and washers or additional clips. The basic requirement for this installation is the alignment of the sink drain opening with the existing waste or drain line stub out and allowing ample space to make a proper drain connection.

The under mount bar sink is especially suited for situations where the sink will receive a lot of activity such as in a bus-boy station or a night club. The reason for using the under mount sink in these situations becomes apparent when considering there is no raised rim at the counter surface as is the case with top set bar sinks. The raised rim does not allow water to ship or be wiped into the basin as easily as with an under mount sink.

The under mount bar sink can be evaluated and shopped through on line sources or by visiting a plumbing fixture supply or home improvement center.

Materials That Make Braided Rugs

When you realize that your wood flooring is just not as cozy as wall to wall carpeting, you start to consider some options.  Carpeting over that beautiful floor is not one of them.  So, what choices do you have, whether you've got wood or tile floors, when it comes to softening them up?  The answer is with area rugs.  These rugs come in a variety of shapes, oval, rectangular, circular.  They also come in a variety of patterns and colors.  What was once only available as a wool rug is now available in other materials as well.  Wool makes for a great choice, however, as it is often a more durable and hardy material.  It has natural antimicrobial properties that make it nice for a place where your feet or your furry one's paws will be.

However, wool is not for everyone.  If you happen to be looking for a braided rug for an outdoor area, then you will probably find that a polypropylene material is your best choice.  This is a derivative of plastic and has better moisture-wicking properties, as far as rugs are concerned.  The last thing you want is for your rug to get wet, mildew and then rot.  While wool is resistant to some of these factors as well, it doesn't make the best outdoor rug choice. The technology that makes the rugs braided, allows the braid to be much tighter and stronger than in the past.  You should find that such a rug is able to last for quite some time.

There are many different types of rugs that you can use throughout the home to both protect the floors and to add impressive accent features to the room. They are both a functional and decorative piece that performs a solid job in making the home appear comfortable and welcoming.

Braided Round Rugs

An extremely effective use of braided rugs is as an area rug and particularly braided round rugs can perform this task with considerable style. The braided finish of the rugs create interesting texture on the floor and the round patterns that come from the way the rug is braided is usually pleasing to the eye.

Most area rugs in the home can be either vacuumed or beaten out to get them clean.  Some of the newer materials also allow for machine washing.  This makes cleaning your rugs much quicker and easier.  Of course, if you have outdoor rugs in mind, you’ll be able to simply hose them down to clean them.

Choose Bathroom Lighting That Accents The Rest Of The Room

There are three types of bathroom design.  The first is the "utilitarian" look where only what's needed is there (maybe even a shower curtain).  The second is the "foreign" design that feels like you walked into a room in someone else's house.  And the third, although rare, is the one that is designed so that everything fits together and looks complete.  As people are spending more time in their homes, they're gravitating towards the third design, but not fast enough.  In this post I want to show you how to pick out the bathroom lighting that will help your room feel finished, complete, and not foreign.

The first step it to figure out what your style actually is.  Most times people will continue whatever the theme is of the rest of the home into the bathroom.  This is a great idea, and will help the bathroom feel like an extension of the rest of the home.  An easy way to figure out what your home's style is to look at the lighting.  Lighting is easy to classify into a genre.  If you have modern lights in your home, add modern lights into your bathroom.

If your bathroom is already partially decorated an you're looking to upgrade the lights to complete it, you're already halfway finished.  The style is there, just pick out the bathroom lighting fixtures that are going to help everything in there look better.  Keep in mind that light fixtures aren't cheap, so be content with the style that you already have so that you don't have to swap everything out in a few years.

A helpful tip to make sure that your lights are going to compliment the bathroom is to bring something with you, like the toothbrush holder or some other decoration, and make sure that the lights that you're looking at jive with it.  It's extremely easy to determine if something is going to fit when you're looking at them side by side, and difficult to do when you're relying on your memory to do the job.

Your bathroom should be an extension of the rest of your home, and picking the right lights for it can be a big step towards making that happen!

Bathroom Tiles In Today's World

Bathroom tiles, even if they continue to enjoy a large acceptance from the public, are not the only flooring options available anymore. More and more people are opting for other choices like wood, cork, and pvc. Is this a trend that is here to stay or will it pass on as many others have before? The fact is that tile floors are still very much in demand and manufacturers are producing more and more variety and better quality to satisfy an ever demanding consumer.

Bathroom flooring tiles are as common in a bathroom as they ever were. Did you know that we have been using bathroom tiles since the Byzantine mosaics, and that famous Roman baths were all tiled. Yet bathroom tile makers have learned to adapt to the exigences of contemporary and minimalist tendencies. Tiles can of bring elegance at an affordable price by presenting the look of more noble materials like marble, slate, or any other natural stone flooring. You can even find tiles that imitate the look of leather and metal.

There is on today's market an infinity of shapes, colors, dimensions for bathroom tiles that can only open the imagination of any decorator. When buying tiles you are no longer limited to a few samples in a local showroom that may or may not carry a good selection. The internet has opened a door for all artisans and artists who make tiles to bring their products to you. In an effort to compete with assaults on so many sides manufacturers who can produce in larger quantities and at lesser cost have increased their production with even more options.

As you can see it only take you a few clicks to find a whole universe of bathroom tiles, the only thing to remember is that you should avoid the use of small tiles in a large room and vice versa.

I am sure that tiling for bathrooms is in no danger of being out of style, however it does present a few disadvantages. It must be installed with great care, preferably by a professional or a well seasoned installer, specially that once installed you will have it for a long time. It should be installed everywhere in the bathroom, even under the tub. You should also pay some attention to prevent slipping on a wet tile floor.

How to Clean Leather Rugs

If you are thinking about buying a leather area rug you may be wondering about any special cleaning requirements these rugs have. In many ways it depends on the type of rug you have purchased how you will care for it. Some are tougher than others but, for the most part, these rugs are relatively problem free as long as you look after them well. Here are some tips on how you might go about cleaning a couple of different types of leather rugs.

Cleaning Patchwork Leather Rugs

Rugs made up of pieces of leather are generally the toughest kind and will be very durable. They can even be buffed back to a shine with shoe polish and treated much like a leather handbag. You should only ever give them a gentle vacuuming however to remove surface dust and use the upholstery tool which is more gentle on your rug than the usual tool you use to clean carpets.

Cleaning Shag Rugs Made of Leather

Leather shag rugs are a slightly different kettle of fish. They are made of strips of leather which are firmly knotted to a backing material. The main problem with these is that dirt and dust gets lodged between the strips of leather and can cause your rug to wear and to look grubby if not properly cleaned. The easiest way to clean this type of rug is to pick it up and give it a good shake although this can be a bit difficult with a very large rug and you might need assistance. Failing this, use your vacuum cleaner as above but it will probably not be as effective at removing grit and grime.

Dealing with Spills and Stains

If you spill anything on your rug, mop it up immediately and dab at the stain with a soft cloth wrung out in warm water with perhaps a little mild detergent added if necessary. If you are not able to remove the stain like this then consult a specialist carpet cleaning company who should be able to resolve the problem.

Bathroom Remodeling Ideas

Remodeling a bathroom is a big job.  There is so much stuff crammed into a small space that it turns out to be overwhelming for many people.  In my opinion, the only remodeling job that's more difficult in the home is the kitchen, and that's only because it is so much more expensive.  With all of the fixtures and cabinetry that goes into the bathroom, it's extremely important that you have a detailed plan before getting started.  To help you formulate that plan, I want to offer some ideas on vanities and cabinets that should help you clarify your vision.

Bathroom vanities are the unit that encompasses the sink, faucet, mirror, lights, and the cabinet below.  There are really two options to consider when getting a new vanity.  You can buy a prefabricated one, or build your own.  The costs of both are relatively similar, but the work that goes into building your own is (obviously) much higher.  The size of your bathroom will determine whether you should get a single or a double vanity.  Double vanities will have two sinks and faucets, as opposed to a single only having one.  Keep in mind that if you're buying a prefabricated vanity, the company may require that you have a construction crew on hand to receive it.  This is to make sure that it's properly received and not damaged while getting it into the house.

A bathroom wall cabinet is also something big and important to consider.  Many people want more space than their vanity provides and turn to wall cabinets.  The problem with these is that you sacrifice a lot of space with a wall cabinet, unless you have a really efficient place to put it.  The area above the toilet is a very underutilized space and works great for a cabinet, but most other spaces in the bathroom don't work as well.  Consider options outside of the bathroom as well for storage if you're working with a small room.

Bathroom remodeling is a tough job, but one that anyone can do with a thorough plan and a manageable budget.  Your vanity and storage space are going to be the biggest chunks of that budget, so be sure to plan accordingly!

The French Armoire: A Brief Look at Its History

Did you know that the armoire was originally a storage unit not for your socks and underwear or your sweaters and shirts, but rather a place to stash guns and iron weapons? Strangely, armoire cabinets were primarily used a placeholder or storage unit for the weapons that a family owned!

Fast forward to today and you'd be hard pressed to find anyone using their Honey Can Do Wardrobe Closets to store the family shotgun or a collection of swords! But at that time, the armoire meant something else than it does in our modern day.

In fact, if a time traveller from the past came up to you today and saw a big wardrobe closet in your room, he might think it's odd that you consider this an armoire but don't call your wooden cabinets an armoire. This is because the term "armoire" originally meant nothing specific to the so-called wardrobe closets of the day. Instead, armoire referred to any type of wood based storage unit that had cabinets or shelving inside it. You can see from this definition today why there are so many types of armoire furniture products that still fall under the umbrella of armoire, but have nothing to do with storing clothes. (For instance, wooden jewelry armoires come to mind as a ready example most are familiar with.)

Now at some point, these armoire storage cabinets that housed weapons started to accommodate other items not related to warfare. Most likely the armoire stored not clothes but dinner ware and other belongings a family, such as family heirlooms and relics. Then, on down the line, they started to be used to store sheets, blankets, and clothing. Finally, probably due to a marketing campaign in the middle of last century, armoires and wardrobe closets became synonymous in the minds of most shoppers who were unaware of the rich history of the armoire. But it wasn't always this way!
