The Undermount Bar Sink

An undermount bar sink is one of the most common styles of bar sinks used in both home and retail applications. These sinks are available in cast iron with a porcelain finish as well as copper and stainless steel. The type of sink to be used is most often determined by a code requirement or a design specification.

In any public access condition such as a night club the local health and safety codes will dictate the type of sink that is to be used. In a home or other private setting personal preference or a design specification may determine the type of sink used.

The term under mount refers the type of installation as it relates to the counter or bar top. Whereas a top-set sink is installed from above the counter top and rests in place, the under mount sink is installed from below and attached by means of clips or brackets. These brackets may be factory-installed bolts or spot-welded clips that are fastened to a wide flange that borders the sink basin. The installation consists of attaching the sink to the underside of the counter top with the accessory mounting parts such as nuts and washers or additional clips. The basic requirement for this installation is the alignment of the sink drain opening with the existing waste or drain line stub out and allowing ample space to make a proper drain connection.

The under mount bar sink is especially suited for situations where the sink will receive a lot of activity such as in a bus-boy station or a night club. The reason for using the under mount sink in these situations becomes apparent when considering there is no raised rim at the counter surface as is the case with top set bar sinks. The raised rim does not allow water to ship or be wiped into the basin as easily as with an under mount sink.

How to Clean Leather Rugs

Bathroom Remodeling Ideas

Remodeling a bathroom is a big job.  There is so much stuff crammed into a small space that it turns out to be overwhelming for many people.  In my opinion, the only remodeling job that's more difficult in the home is the kitchen, and that's only because it is so much more expensive.  With all of the fixtures and cabinetry that goes into the bathroom, it's extremely important that you have a detailed plan before getting started.  To help you formulate that plan, I want to offer some ideas on vanities and cabinets that should help you clarify your vision.

Bathroom vanities are the unit that encompasses the sink, faucet, mirror, lights, and the cabinet below.  There are really two options to consider when getting a new vanity.  You can buy a prefabricated one, or build your own.  The costs of both are relatively similar, but the work that goes into building your own is (obviously) much higher.  The size of your bathroom will determine whether you should get a single or a double vanity.  Double vanities will have two sinks and faucets, as opposed to a single only having one.  Keep in mind that if you're buying a prefabricated vanity, the company may require that you have a construction crew on hand to receive it.  This is to make sure that it's properly received and not damaged while getting it into the house.

A bathroom wall cabinet is also something big and important to consider.  Many people want more space than their vanity provides and turn to wall cabinets.  The problem with these is that you sacrifice a lot of space with a wall cabinet, unless you have a really efficient place to put it.  The area above the toilet is a very underutilized space and works great for a cabinet, but most other spaces in the bathroom don't work as well.  Consider options outside of the bathroom as well for storage if you're working with a small room.

Bathroom remodeling is a tough job, but one that anyone can do with a thorough plan and a manageable budget.  Your vanity and storage space are going to be the biggest chunks of that budget, so be sure to plan accordingly!

The French Armoire: A Brief Look at Its History

Did you know that the armoire was originally a storage unit not for your socks and underwear or your sweaters and shirts, but rather a place to stash guns and iron weapons? Strangely, armoire cabinets were primarily used a placeholder or storage unit for the weapons that a family owned!

Fast forward to today and you'd be hard pressed to find anyone using their Honey Can Do Wardrobe Closets to store the family shotgun or a collection of swords! But at that time, the armoire meant something else than it does in our modern day.

In fact, if a time traveller from the past came up to you today and saw a big wardrobe closet in your room, he might think it's odd that you consider this an armoire but don't call your wooden cabinets an armoire. This is because the term "armoire" originally meant nothing specific to the so-called wardrobe closets of the day. Instead, armoire referred to any type of wood based storage unit that had cabinets or shelving inside it. You can see from this definition today why there are so many types of armoire furniture products that still fall under the umbrella of armoire, but have nothing to do with storing clothes. (For instance, wooden jewelry armoires come to mind as a ready example most are familiar with.)

Now at some point, these armoire storage cabinets that housed weapons started to accommodate other items not related to warfare. Most likely the armoire stored not clothes but dinner ware and other belongings a family, such as family heirlooms and relics. Then, on down the line, they started to be used to store sheets, blankets, and clothing. Finally, probably due to a marketing campaign in the middle of last century, armoires and wardrobe closets became synonymous in the minds of most shoppers who were unaware of the rich history of the armoire. But it wasn't always this way!
